Nedbank’s goal of making the things that really matter happen has by far exceeded all expectations. Since its 2011 inception, 10 players have signed PSL and NFD contracts to realise their football dreams and contribute to their team’s success. The 2016 Ke Yona Team was announced and is raring to go at Supersport United on 4 September at the Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton.
One player that has truly demonstrated Nedbank’s ability to turn lives around is Limpopo born midfielder, Maphosa Modiba. The current PSL Young Player of The Season was amongst the 23-man squad that flew the South African flag high at this year’s Olympics against world superstars such as Brazilian and Barcelona superstar, Neymar. Modiba is a 2015 graduate of the Ke Yona Team Search that produced the likes of Luthando Sixhaso who is with former Nedbank Cup champions, Kaizer Chiefs.
The 22-year-old youngster has grown tremendously since graduating from South Africa’s leading talent search initiative headed by Shakes Mashaba, Owen Da Gama, Khabo Zondo and Mike Mangena. Even though the U23 National Team was knocked out of the Olympics, Modiba believes the experience gained from such a tournament will take him even further and alludes the success he is enjoying to the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search.
“I am enjoying a successful football career because I have been through the hands of the best coaches in this country. Through the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search, I had the unique opportunity of being trained by Owen Da Gama and Shakes Mashaba. From then on, I worked with one of the best tacticians, Muhsin Ertugral who has molded me to be the player that I am today. All of this would not have happened had I not partnered with Nedbank to make my football dreams happen,” said Modiba.
The Ke Yona Team Search is one of many ways in which Nedbank continues to make the things that really matter happen says Nedbank’s Group Executive for Group Marketing, Communications and Corporate Affairs, Mr. Thulani Sibeko.
“It is with pride that we share tangible success stories such as these. Modiba is a practical demonstration of Nedbank’s strong belief in making things happen in the lives of the communities that it serves.
Tickets to the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search will soon be freely available at all Computicket and Shoprite Checkers stores nationwide. The Nedbank Ke Yona Challenge will take place at the Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton and will be broadcasted live on SABC 1. The live match will serve as the final episode of the ongoing Making the Team TV Series, which has been giving viewers the journey of the Nedbank Ke Yona Team players.
